Steriolization Clinic in PM

Sunday was a big sterilization clinic in PM for dogs and cats. As we feed 9 street cats, we wanted to catch as many as possible and get them done. Borrowed this trap from Martina and caught this lovely little boy first.

The clinic was set up at the Taxi union building in our neighbourhood, and was coordinated by Dina, who did an awesome job getting vets here, rounding up equipment and making sure everyone got what they needed!

The registration desk, where little black cat watches all the activity as we are signed in. Altho all our cats are feral, this one let me pet him through the bars....wow!

We were there at 8:30 and the surgeries were already underway - at least a dozen or more vets both local and from other towns donated their time.

The other end of the surgery room - which was just a huge gym sized place, with the surgeries at one end and the "recovery area" at the other.

Little black cat gets his anasthetic while still in the cage, and is then laid out and examined by the vets.

Out cold, then he was shaved and prepped for surgery......the staff were so caring and amazing with all these critters.

The other end of the big room was for recovery - each animal with its own carboard bed in which to sleep off the drugs and be comforted by their owners.

by noon, the place was humming.....I left black cat sleeping it off and went back to our street and picked up a little female street dog who has been hanging out at a friends place. Turned out, after she had been put to sleep and shaved that she had already been spayed - oooops - so she had a long nap for nothing, poor baby.

Little black cat coming to.....so took him home, put him in the bathroom and trapped another one of our street cats - "one eye" - we call her, as one of her eyes was damaged in a fight some time.

The recovery area is full of stoned dogs and cats by 2 pm......and happy, nurturing owners. Most of the owners are locals, and I recognized a lot of the dogs from our neighbourhood.

Our friend Claudia brought her great dane for his surgery, but he was so damn big they had to do his surgery on the floor - he was too big for the table.

The other member of the Claudia and Richard family to have her surgery was their chihuahua.....who easily fit on the table............

I went home to get another street cat while Little Boy rested in the recovery room and got......
Little One Eye in the trap......but alas, I get her there, she gets the anasthetic shot, and after she is shaved, damned if she doesn't already have a scar and mark showing she had been spayed some time in her life.......another long nap for nothing. Sorry, baby!

Robin and Steve brought their female doberman, Lola, who had her surgery on the table with no problem..........

I will let you know how many dogs and cats were finally done this day - I am sure it was a good high number..........

and it was only 200 pesos per animal (about 18 Canadian dollars), so very affordable.

Lola in recovery.......her dads showed up with brother Rio and they all gave Lola her tlc until she was awake enough to go home. Our two cats spent the night in the bathroom, but Botas was so crazy knowing there were cats in there, that eventually we put them in their crates on the porch, covered with a blanket with food and water, and released them both this morning.

Great week for visits......

Brian and Josh, dear friends from Victoria, were in town for a family wedding, and came to our casa for an afternoon visit.

It was great to see them here in our hood again - they were here a few years ago for another family wedding.......good thing there are weddings in that family or we would never see them....lol  They fell in love with Botas and wants to add him to their 2 ancient dog family in Victoria. We are so thrilled for him - and them. We will of course have visiting rights....:-)

Lee was also here and had a brand new hair style done by Steve at their house.........

Loving the new look......hot!

Steve gave Miki a long awaited haircut too - she is very happy with it. This guy is so damn talented!!!!

The happy haircuts and their creator!

Robin, meanwhile cooked up a wonderful dinner for us all.........

Curried Thai chicken with rice and veggies......yummmmmmmmm!!!

and next day Lee took us for breakfast before she headed back to Ek Balam, and Miki was very happy that her haircut "stuck".......even in the wild wind that morning.......

ditto Lee - still loves the new look - see you again soon, my friend!!!!
