Playa del Carmen and the festival

We loved the hotel Mariposa last year, but chose the Maya del Carmen this year as it was just 3 blocks from the festival and had a pool. Our deck over looked the lush courtyard and pool.

A nice little sitting area in the courtyard.......

Bouganvilla growing on a building in town.............

Hibiscus in the garden at the hotel.....

Playa is a crazy busy town, but great restaurants, lots of shopping, and good people watching. We lazed around the hotel during the day, ate supper out, swam in the pool and enjoyed not having any responsibilities....:-)

Oh, yeah, our lovely room with the king size bed had towel critters on it every morning. We had a living room and dining area, VERY blue tiled bathroom and a huge balcony.

Sue was just above us - we all enjoyed the pool every day.

Jazz Festival!

The 9th Annual Jazz Fest in Playa del Carmen - Nov. 24 - 26.  Three world class jazz bands every night, on an incredible stage - on the beach  - FOR FREE!! Doesn't get any better...!

First 2 nights Sue was with us - we stayed in a great little hotel for the 3 nights and Sue stayed 2 in another suite. The beach fills up during the evening and is wall to wall people.

Bands, not necessarily in order (9 of them) Alex Otaola,

Richard Bona.........

Jeff Lorber.....

Randy Brecker - 2 out of 3 brothers dedicated the concert to their brother who died in February of this year, all accomplished jazz musicians........

Sue, Linda and Miki grooving to the sounds.....Linda joined us for the last night.

Folks built themselves little sand chairs and chaises....very cool!

Pat & Enrique Hnos......

There was even an Irish band playing in a local bar on our way home the first night....!

Natalia Lafourcade......strange, but great band.............

Stanley Clark........

The Yellowjackets.....fabulous! All 3 nights were just amazing!!
