Superbowl 2011!!

Is it a Mayan sculpture?.....a Toltec face?.......no, it is a big screen TV set up at David Lau's to watch this year's Superbowl!!!

We joined friends Sue, Linda, Dan and Sandra, their friends Jack and Jan, and a room full of football fans (or people who just wanted to hang out and party) for the big game.

The place was packed with many TV screens around the courtyard, lots of great food, and Valorie and her team did an awesome job! There were raffles for Superbowl T-shirts, and whenever your team scored, you got either a free beer, or a shot of tequila!!

Since there were lots of scores, there were lots of free shots and Coronas flying around.

Sharon and Les and their friends doled out the tequila and beer, making sure no one double dipped..... :P

It was a fun evening, and Miki and I did our usual tag-team bookstore clerking, taking turns working in the store and watching the game.

Jazz on the beach

We had a light snack of shrimp quesadillas and guacamole at the new Playita restaurant on the beach, and since it is the old La Patita owners, the fish was fresh and the service was great.

This a huge beach area, mostly shaded, and can sit lots of people, many of whom are local families who come out in droves on Sundays, their only day off together, and some of whom were people like us who came to try out the food in the new locale and also hear some cool jazz on a hot afternoon.

A smaller version of the Men in Blues played some lovely peices, and this is their acoustic setting, so no loud speakers. Next week they will have a little percusssion and a bass player, but still low key to match the audience.

The lovely family who owns the house next door to us, as well as the current lovely family who is living there renting from them while they live in Cuba for a couple of years, had a big table with lots of food, kids and laughter!!

Candelabria at our casa

We had a great feast with our friends on Friday night, and Pearl and Elna decided to return to PM from Isla Mujeres to attend and stay overnight before they had to catch their flight on Sat.

Letty and Irma enjoying a dramatic moment......
Les, Sharon and Miki by the pool.....

Deb, Stan and Pearl in the back courtyard

And look at that food - Charo has a plate full of tamales, which were lovingly made by a friend of hers and Lety's. Then there was homemade salsa, guacamole, cheeses and nibblys.

Everyone ended up by the pool at the end of the evening - and daf in it - the only one brave enough to get into the cool water....:-)  It was a wonderful evening with dear friends and great food!

dinner in the 'hood

We finally took ourselves out for supper en route to work the other night, at a little place at the end of our street that specializes in shrimp. It is always packed, and now we know why - fabulous food, great friendly service and lots of extras.

Turns out the owner was the head chef at Caktuz in Puerto, so it was great to meet him again too. Miki had butterflied breaded shrimp and I had shrimp diabla - HOT - wonderful sauce, rice, salad, a pasta dish with pineapple, even french fries - all for 100 pesos (10 dollars). Great chips with salsas and hot sauces too.

Friday we got ready for our party so set up the front courtyard as an extra seating area, maybe for any smokers, although there turned out to be none.

Back courtyard was ready too, which is where we all ended up at the end of the evening in the cooler air.
