Dogs in our lives.....

Botas, our street dog, doing his seal imitation.......!
Happy to say I found Huesos the other day, the dog who was hit by a taxi, had surgery last year and was since presumed dead.....here he is alive and well and living in the colonia...!
Now that Mariposa has a new permanent home, Botas is allowed in the back patio/pool area and loves to chase his ball and kong around the yard......
He loves the pool, too - has not ventured in yet, but will drink from it and run around the rim just so he can be close to us while we are in the pool.

beach bar....from the younger view point...

Of course, the highlight of the beach bar was the beach, as far as the kids were concerned......:-) Drew was on duty for the first shift.......

Kids spent most of their time in the water.....what a surprise........

Then a local joined a number of kids playing in the sand under the coconut trees, cut a few down, and presto - coconut juice.......

both kids tried it....Jonah liked it more than Nessa.....!!!!  Very healthy stuff.....but I will stick with the real coconut milk, preferably mixed with tequila.

kids, beach and music

We joined Mick, Bev, Eleanor, Sharon, Les, Murray, Mary, Patti, Emily......well, the whole gang was there..........for blues and rock at the Manta Beach Bar on Sunday........

I grabbed a quick supper on the beach before heading back to the bookstore, and Miki and the kids had supper at the Papas restaurant in Villas Morelos............

Music was great - Randall, Peter, Rob, Jeannine - the whole gang played today and entertained the group with fine blues and rock.

Manta beach bar needs more staff, but once they get to your order, they make good drinks and good grilled food.....thanks guys!

Sunday at the Jungle Market

Miki took the fam to the Jungle Market while I went to work at  the bookstore....Fam is right in the middle, about to watch the Mayan women do their dance.......
Vanessa got right into the group maypole dance at the end.....
Even Jonah got up to do the dance with the women.....
Jutta and kids while Drew sensibly went to find some shade......

Lee arrives....

Night before the kids arrive, Lee from Ek Balam spent the night with us before heading home to Canada to see her ailing Mom.

We went out for supper to David Lau's and met friends there.

Rob and Joanne joined us......sorry about the flash on this pic......sigh.......

And Bev and Mick were on hand to help us welcome Lee and send her off to a difficult time with lots of love and support.

Family arrives....!!

Family has arrived from Victoria........within half an hour of getting off the plane, the kids were in the pool.....

Drew settled in quickly too.............
We headed to town later for supper......two suppers, as Miki was working the first shift at the bookstore. Jutta, Drew and I grabbed a bite at Triny's while the kids played in the park......
Then it was Nana's turn to work, so Miki went for a second supper with  Drew and Jutta while the kids helped me run the bookstore........!

Alcaldia de Pto Morelos....

PM is under the jurisdiction of Cancun, and on Thursday there was to have been a decision made which would have allowed PM to be more independent, collect its own taxes, and elect its own mayor. A huge celebration was planned for Sunday, but Cancun postponed the meeting and therefore the decision, which turned this celebration into a demonstration.

(Mayor of Purto Morelos)
All the candidates for mayor were duly introduced, and many speeches given denouncing the postponement of this important decision. However, they had already planned the fiesta, so it went ahead anyway......Viva Puerto Morelos!!!!!!!! The whole evening after the speeches was traditional dancing and very loud music......

The final entertainment was a very hot Mexican band who played salsa and very loud fast mariatchi music.

The basketball court became a dance floor and all the locals, young and old, were up there strutting their stuff. Even a few tourists were brave enough to try to dance to that music.....it was awesome!!!!!

This is a video of the dancing and music....I never know if these show up as such on the blog....

For anyone who has ever been to a Mexican town, you will know that potholes are inevitable, and some you could lose a small car in. Imagine then that they secured that big tent by driving huge spikes into the ROAD to hold it in place. In about 2 days these will be pot holes, as the road is built on sand and caves in at the slightest provocation.....LOL

St. Joseph's Day in PM

A huge tent was raised in the town square to celebrate St. Joseph's Day, patron saint of carpenters, the working person, and even those buying and selling homes......so we had a tip of the hat to St. Joseph for our quick sale at home.....!

The priests came out from the church and did mass for the assembled followers, and the outdoor service was well attended.

After the service, the whole evening was devoted to traditional dances. There were tiny dancers, teen dancers and adult dancers, all in their regional finery.

This was quite a large troup.....these local kids practice for weeks for these shows.....and have such fun!!

Especially the littlest ones...........

This is the daughter of a shopkeeper on the square...very serious in her fancy dress......

And this little muffin was the smallest of all, and didn't miss a step......!

A full moon Guinness night...!

Friday night was almost the full moon, and a day after St. Patrick's Day, but it felt like the right day to enjoy a pint of a special treat - Guinness!!!!

My Guinness buddies are Les and Mick, so Miki, Bev and Sharon all drank their own favourites. We had a great meal at Sharon and Les's of rotisserie and grilled chicken and a wonderful baked veggie dish in fillo pastry. It was a fun night, with the moon shining overhead.

A quiet moment at Mama's bakery in the morning with 3 of Diane's many cats enjoying the bird sounds.

My personal favourite is Chester, a handsome street cat who will let a couple of people pet him, and I am honoured to be one of those. Could be Sitge's cousin, don't you think.....????

South Beach.....

One of our most special places is South Beach......so we wanted Laura to see it before she left........

We set up our chairs in the shade of a palm and enjoyed the deserted beach and wonderful breakers rolling in.

Laura was suitably impressed.....a very different beach from the gentle beaches of town....

The only thing missing from these pics is Botas, and this is his favourite beach, so were sure to take home 2 coconuts for his enjoyment.

almost last lunch...

We went with Laura to a new restaurant this year, La Choza (formerly Rosie's Juice Bar) and were very impressed. The decor is lovely, the food was great and the service was very good.

the waiter even picked fresh chaya for our chaya drinks....now THAT'S fresh....and the drinks were yummy!

During lunch one of the St. Joseph's Day parades went down the street with the maypole, used later in the evening during the traditional dances in the square.........

.....followed up by the "band" .........
